To Hamdeok beach instead of the classroom. In an immersive project built on Stanford d.school methods, students moved through the town the way an astronaut surveys an unfamiliar planet, and used AI to compose a message to send outward.

After Voyager: the Platinum Record

As Voyager's Golden Record carried the sounds of Earth outward, the students made a Platinum Record carrying Jeju's. They shaped the message in text, image, and sound with generative AI, which put the technology and the imagination in the same room.

Borrowed from Astronaut Training: the Micro Mission

Surveying an unfamiliar place and solving a problem from what you observed there is close to what a real mission asks of you.

Four Stages

  1. Explore

    Into the local

    Walk the shops and streets of Hamdeok, gather what residents see, and take in the local culture

  2. Conceive

    Concept art

    Turn what you gathered into images, one original concept per team

  3. Transmit

    The AI backup message

    Under the brief "transmit this experience to the Mars base", compose the message with generative AI

  4. Launch

    Showcase

    Present and share the work at a closing networking party
